Founded in 1960, Cancer Services provides support and services for cancer patients and their families to reduce the financial and emotional burdens that often follow a cancer diagnosis. Approximately four out of ten Ohioans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetime. Cancer is the second leading cause of death, accounting for nearly one in four deaths in Ohio and the United States. Cecily Brown, Executive Director, states, Until we find a cure for cancer, Cancer Services will be here to support our patients and their families. Cancer Services relies on generous community support,foundation grants, and fundraising events to support its mission. Annual revenue and long-14 years ago, Cancer term sustainability are ongoing concerns for all nonprofits. About Services established an endowment fund with the Erie County Community Foundation.The fund has grown through investment income over the years, but there was no plan in place to grow the endowment with annual contributions. The opportunity for a matching grant from the Dorn Foundation Challenge led to a renewed conversation and commitment from the Cancer Services board to activelygrow the endowment. Cecily believes, The beauty of an endowment is that it provides a stable source of annual operating revenue. The less time we spend on annual fund-raising means we have more time to devote to service delivery for the patients.Last year, Cancer Services assistedThanks to a generous and timely bequest, Cancer 250 individuals by providing:Services was able to provide their portion and receive the 1,500 trips to medical appointments full match of $5,000 from the Dorn Foundation Challenge. 500 cases of nutritional supplements Moving forward,theyve set a goal to grow their coverage for 166 prescriptions71 wigs/mastectomy items from the endowment to $1 million over the next five years. boutique located in their office on Cecily observes, A bequest is a donors last gift.
