b'THE DORN FOUNDATION CHALLENGE GRANTEMBRACING THEPOWER OF ENDOWMENTThe Erie County Community Foundation would like to express sincere thanks to theRandolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation for their significant contributions in 2021.In honor of our 25th anniversary in 2022, The Dorn Foundation launcheda Matching Grant Challenge to help create endowments and stabilizenonprofits in Erie County. Establishing an endowment at the Community Foundation offers many benefits, including access to expert investment advice, pooled assets, and long-term sustainability. The hard part can be coming up with the initial capital to open a fund or shifting emphasis from an agencys annual operating budget to set dollars aside for the future. In honor of the legacy of Randolphand Estelle Dorn, this challenge was designed to provide greater incentive for nonprofits and schoolsto prioritize endowment gifts. The Challenge ended December 31, 2021 and yielded amazing results, New funds created: Erie County Historical Societyincluding an anonymous $40,000 gift, several new funds created, and a total of $835,109 leveraged.
