A library serves a community’s collective curiosity, its thirst for information, its need for knowledge. A library is where groups gather and individuals dig in. It is a resource that makes a community whole. Even as new technology accelerates the need for rein- vention, the fundamental idea of a library does not change. Yet the need for continuous transformation is very real, staying relevant takes money, and raising money is critical in the face of a shrinking State budget. Ruth Frost Parker loved the Sandusky Library and the Follett House Museum. She understood the need to invest in this precious community asset. It is why she bequeathed the money to create a fund at the Erie County Community Foundation specifically to support the library. Even before Molly Carver, the Executive Director of the Library, was aware of the existance of this new Fund, it had been created by the Foundation. It is what we do. A fund at the Community Foundation can put the library on the radar of more potential donors than the library could reach on its own. Plus, this fund at the Community Foundation offers assurance that the Library’s own Foundation’s annual fund-raising effort will begin with a healthy down payment, making every other direct contribution all the more valuable. This library is at the very heart of our community.ItisnowapartoftheCommunity Foundation, too. 4 |
